In the autumn months after the monsoon the weather is usually perfect
- warm sunny days with a brilliant blue sky against which the high peaks
stand in sharp relief. Birches in the forest turn gold and on the higher
slopes berberis glows fiery red... the sunsets are breathtaking'.

That is what
the brochure said, and much of it was true, but brochures can be wrong,
especially when travel in the high and remote places of the world is involved.
Flights may be delayed or cancelled and there may be unseasonable snowfalls.
Illness, too, may cause plans to change. 'Everest '92' was the fulfilment
of a dream; a chance to walk amongst some of the highest mountains of
the world, and to be with the wonderful mountain people of Nepal. A chance,
too, to recharge batteries after a difficult year, to think things out,
and to prepare for the future...
