Directions: I went this way but there are other routes. From the end of the dual carriageway south of the Humber Bridge (junction with M180/A180) go straight across onto A18. Pass Humberside International Airport and continue to Laceby roundabout on A46:- easy to spot as there is a Mercedes dealer on one corner and a derelict Little Chef on the other. Turn right onto A46:- fast road, stupid drivers. This takes you straight to Caistor. You pass Swallow on your left. Park in square or by church (LN7 6UG). Narrow streets, steep hill, friendly natives.

Annual Meal?? At Swallow (4 miles east of Caistor on A46) is the Swallow Inn. I tried to persuade the manager to provide a fixed price menu for a group of 25 or so but failed. However, they do a very good “2 for the price of 1” menu. If interested, see www.theswallowinn.co.uk from whence you can download a menu, or phone 01472 371 250 or e-mail info@theswallowinn.co.uk). Four of us each had a substantial main meal there:- £30 in total.

Cross the George Street bridge into Witham but turn immediate left into New Cleveland Street (A1165) Continue forward at next roundabout and you are now on Stoneferry Road (A1033). Forward at next roundabout leaving B & Q on your left. At next roundabout turn right into Leads Road (B1237). Continue until you reach another roundabout with Church Street on your right. Turn into Church Street and Saint James is soon on your left. Park where you can!

Notes and Travel Directions
This Chapel is a Georgian gem. Pevsner’s book on the Buildings of Yorkshire lists it as the finest in the county. It has an unaltered U-shaped gallery of box pews (even better than RHB) from which they have asked us to sing. Access is up a steep flight of steps. Cellists will find it difficult:- double bassists impossible.

Get to Newport on the old A63, now the B1230. It is not far from the M62/A63 junction. In the village look for the Methodist Centre (with clock) on the north side of the road. Toilets in this building. The Chapel is hidden behind. Park on main road or side streets. Satnav code HU15 2RG.

New recruits get two meetings free, and then join by paying £10, or leave.

It is assumed that everyone will be at each meeting unless they let Roger or Gordon know in advance verbally or by letter, e-mail, phone.

Saint Paul’s Church, Hull - Sunday 10th May, 2009

Meet at Saint Paul's Church, Hull to start singing at 2.30pm. Practice and then tea and open discussion to discuss music, future events, administration etc. If you have any items for discussion please let me (ie RH) know in advance if possible.

We will first of all rehearse Psalm 95 (“O come loud anthems”) and Dunstable (“Give thanks to God”). You should have both of these pieces. If not, let RH know at least a week before we meet so he can duplicate those which you lack. RH has already distributed his total stock of both

Discussion Nothing has been decided but one suggestion to be put forward is to drop the monthly donation of £1 and replace it with an annual subscription of £10. Only colleagues who have paid this will get all of the music in advance. The reason is that we waste a lot of money printing music which is never collected. If you have any comments to make or wish to volunteer to take over a role such as committee member, music organiser etc., and can’t be present, then do let me know.

10) While shepherds watched (to Lyngham). Printed as a hymn.Tenors and instruments might prefer the 4 stave music version already in your folder.

I will bring all the music on the day. If you want it in advance, please let me know as soon as possible.

Annual Dinner on 11 January 2009 A discussion at Cawood suggested that most of us would prefer a sit-down meal rather than a buffet. The best venue seems to be Reeds Hotel near Barton, on the road to Winterton just west of the Humber Bridge. For £13.95 they offer two courses and coffee. Main courses are Beef, Turkey, Lamb, Haddock, Tagliatelli with mushrooms for vegetarians. Desserts are hot or cold (no details). With luck they will allow us to rehearse after lunch. (The Church at Barton has a Baptism in the afternoon which prevents us from getting in as early as we would like.) To book the meal, the hotel wants £5 deposits from everyone attending. Please bring £5 each to the November rehearsal and be prepared to commit yourself if we all agree to use Reeds Hotel.
February 8 2009 General meeting to discuss music, future events etc., with half the time spent trying out new pieces. If you have any items for discussion or new music to try please let me know in advance.

11) Finale:- New Jerusalem

Extras at the back of your folder for future use or spontaneous rehearsal:
Diadem, Lyngham, Sagina, “O come loud anthems”
We might do “O come loud anthems” instead of Catsfield if we have enough instruments and the conductor is satisfied.
You can hide Grimsby away in a dark corner until I need the music back next year!
If you are short of any music let me know well before the day.

Directions to Cawood. (Church postcode is YO8 3SN)
Pretty, vaguely Dutch-type village on River Ouse where the B1222 and B1223 cross, south of York and north of Selby. Do not attempt to reach Cawood via Bubworth as A163 will probably be closed there. Church is just off B1223. Ignore building looking like a church near traffic lights in centre of village and go along Selby Road (B1223) to Church End. Turn left into Church End and keep going. Church soon appears on your left. Plenty of space to park on road. Disabled toilet within. 8 chairs for instrumentalists who should be able to fit in front of chancel arch. Singers will have to use choir stalls but they look reasonably spacious. Conductor in Aisle. Acoustic seems OK. Harrison & Harrison organ!

Programme for 2008/2009:

December 14 Carols at Lowgate, Hull
January 11 2009 Carols at Barton on Humber . Annual Dinner?

July 12 2009 220th anniversary of Methodism in Newport Chapel.

Use of e-mailing In response to comments I am trying the following system. Each monthly circular will appear as text on your screen so you can read it without opening the attachment. There will be a PDF version of the same document with the e-mail which will open if you click on it, provided you have a PDF reader. You can download a PDF reader free from the Adobe website if you don’t already have one in your machine. It pays to get the latest version. I hope this satisfies everyone.....

St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Caistor - Sunday 12th October, 2008 - Cancelled

Wolds Apart Circular September #2
Regrettably Caistor has withdrawn its invitation for October because of organisational problems - the Vicar has been landed with another 3 churches.
We might go there later in 2009 (May has been mooted). Any offers for an Evensong, especially from the South Bank?

Meantime, what do we do with the blank Sunday in October? Another rehearsal? A pow-wow to discuss how we might organise meetings in the future? Open forum on selection of music? As Steve is away in September please route your suggestions/comments to Roger Hateley initially

All Saints' Church, Hessle - Sunday 9th March, 2008

8) Congregation Hymn:- Diadem
9) Winterton
10) Congregation Hymn:- Rachie
11) Finale:- New Jerusalem

Psalm 67. Pat said on Sunday that there is a better way of singing the "Mercy Lord" bars. I was too dim to take this in at the time but since then Richard & Margaret have provided a printed version. If we have time we will try it out at Hessle but we may have to leave it until the next rehearsal. Thank you (all three) for pointing this out

To get there from the big roundabout at the north end of the Humber Bridge, go along the dual carriageway towards Hull for about a mile until you reach the next roundabout. This has a huge metal footbridge draped all over it. Turn right. This road takes you straight to the Church in the middle of Hessle (about half a mile). Those with local knowledge say that there is parking behind the church/church hall and (also free) at a nearby supermarket.

Any queries to Roger Hateley please (01430 810481)

Help wanted with our documentation We need a volunteer to produce and keep tabs on the Hymn, Service and Evensong handouts given to the congregation. A word processor and access to e-mail would be useful but not essential. More details from Roger.
