‘Let us suggest just a few of the \nhighlights: the beautiful mountain of Ama Dablam rising above the Imja \nKhola – the Sherpa villages of the high valleys of Khumbu – views of Cho\n Oyu and Gyachung Kang from the Ngozumpa glacier – Gokyo Ri with its \nspectacular view of Mount Everest, one of the most wonderful panoramas \nin Himalaya – an easy pass of over 18,000ft leading to the heart of \nKhumbu – Everest Base Camp and high camps by the Khumbu Glacier with \nclose up views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama \nDablam… In the autumn months after the monsoon the weather is usually \nperfect – warm sunny days with a brilliant blue sky against which the \nhigh peaks stand in sharp relief. Birches in the forest turn gold and on\n the higher slopes berberis glows fiery red… the sunsets are \nbreathtaking’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is what the \nbrochure said, and much of it was true, but brochures can be wrong, \nespecially when travel in the high and remote places of the world is \ninvolved. Flights may be delayed or cancelled and there may be \nunseasonable snowfalls. Illness, too, may cause plans to change. \n‘Everest ’92’ was the fulfilment of a dream; a chance to walk amongst \nsome of the highest mountains of the world, and to be with the wonderful\n mountain people of Nepal. A chance, too, to recharge batteries after a \ndifficult year, to think things out, and to prepare for the future…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
