(It should be noted that it is not clear who actually &#8216;published&#8217; them as there is no indication on the copy that I have). They  offer a view of the railways of Lincoln in an age that has now gone by,  when there was a lot of &#8216;wagon load&#8217; traffic to be seen on the rail  network, and many large factories had their own &#8216;internal&#8217; rail systems  and often had their own locomotives. Many changes took place, of course.  The tracks in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.photrek.co.uk\/wordpress\/?page_id=969\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Pyewipe (opens in a new tab)\">Pyewipe<\/a> area were simplified in the late 1960s, and the sidings to the SE of &nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photrek.co.uk\/rom7.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln Central Station<\/a> went in September 1967, as did platform 8. The track layout in the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photrek.co.uk\/rom8.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Pelham Junction &amp; Sincil Junction<\/a> area was simplified after the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.railwaysarchive.co.uk\/documents\/MoT_Lincoln1962.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln rail crash of 3rd June, 1962.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maps are reproduced  from an original set in my possession. From this site: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Lincoln Station (LMR) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/signalbox.org\/diagrams.php?id=1090\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln Station (LMR)<\/a> (c1960) &amp;  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Lincoln West (LMR) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/signalbox.org\/diagrams.php?id=1019\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln West (LMR)<\/a> (c1964).<br> Readers may also be interested by the website maintained by the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.s-r-s.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Signalling Record Society<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>&#8216;Something&#8217; on industrial railways in the Lincoln area, but I&#8217;m sure this can be expanded.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of interest to the  industrial archaeologist are the large number of &#8216;industrial (or  &#8216;private&#8217;) sidings&#8217; serving sites as diverse as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"'Newsums'  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photrek.co.uk\/?page_id=310\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Newsums&#8217; <\/a>joinery works  and the great foundries and erecting shops of &#8216;Ruston &amp; Hornsby&#8217;. It  has been suggested that Lincoln had more industrial sidings, for its  size, than many cities in the UK. It is worth commenting that, according  to &#8216;British Industrial Locomotives (Industrial Railway Society, 1969)  there were 11 &#8216;industrial&#8217; locomotives (all i.c.) based within the area  of the maps, whilst there were a further three based within ten miles or  so of Lincoln Central Station. There were also seven 2&#8242; 0&#8243; locomotives  at three locations around the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not surprisingly, the  majority of the industrial locomotives in use at that time were manufactured by the local  firm of Ruston &amp; Hornsby, the only exceptions being a Bagnall 4wh  Diesel Hydraulic (WB 3208\/1961) at Harrison&#8217;s, North Hykeham, a 4wh  Diesel Mechanical of 2&#8242; 0&#8243; gauge by Motor Rail (MR 5001\/1930) at  Finingley Gravel, Thorpe on the Hill (o.o.u. by 1969), and the solitary  steam locomotive in the area &#8211; a Hudswell Clark 0-6-0ST (HC 1604\/1928)  at the British Sugar Corporation&#8217;s Bardney factory: all being out of the  area covered by the maps. (HC1604\/1928 is now under restoration at the  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Mid-Suffolk Light Railway (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mslr.org.uk\/news\/keep-up-to-date-with-the-restoration-of-1604\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mid-Suffolk Light Railway<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a9 T Hudson 01\/01\/2015 &amp; later.
